Joshua Bruce

Joshua has been a working, independent artist since 1983. During this time he has staged more than 20 solo shows in London, New York and Italy and participated in numerous group exhibitions.

His current paintings, whilst initially seeming monochromatic and minimal, on second sight emerge as far more complex leading the viewer into an imaginary world of their choosing.

Joshua achieves this effect partially by his insistence on producing his own paint colours from pure pigment and linseed oil. His fascination with colour stems from childhood and today he uses the grinding of the paint as an essential meditative preparation towards making the actual paintings.   He is able to produce a unique palette of colours that  is impossible to achieve using commercially manufactured paints.

 The resultant canvases are imbued with depth and subtlety – an almost Turneresque effect of emotion and atmosphere.

Joshua’s work is bought by an ever growing group of discerning collectors who truly appreciate the unique quality that he achieves in his work.
